If I could offer one piece of advice to my fellow writing cohorts (or anyone with a dream/aspiration), it would be: “Don’t ever let anyone tell you what you can or cannot do”.
Boom! The end.
Seriously though, so long as you aren’t causing harm to another being, go after the “white whale” in your life. We often limit ourselves to the parameters of normalcy that has been set before us. Well, I’m here to tell you, there is no box, and you don’t have to stay inside the lines.
Once you let go of the imaginary boundaries you set for yourself, opportunities are limitless. Think about what you most want out of your life– then aim higher. Break through that invisible mental glass and reach for new heights.
Recently I’ve had to let go of preconceived notions about my work and the expectations of my peers, friends, etc.. Most people do not have a concept of what it is that I do as a freelance writer. They either think I stare pensively in Starbucks looking artistic or I’m a bum with no career ambition. Both could not be further from the truth (well, I do frequent Starbucks, but I’ve been doing that since I was 15, ha).
After making huge strides in my career (yes, it is sustainable, if you know what you’re doing) recently, I’ve broken through my own box and have realized the endless potential that’s out there.
So today, my friends, get uncomfortable. Dream and dream big! As cliche as it sounds, you can do it if you put your mind to it. Don’t let others and societal norms keep you from reaching your potential. 🙂
Yes!!
